Dr. Frank L. Jones Building Partner Capacity in Africa. Keys to Success

The fiscal year (FY) 2017 National Defense Authorization Act, which includes a title to reform the Department of Defense (DoD) security cooperation, has far-reaching implications for U.S. defense interests in Africa. As the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee notes, “the Department of Defense continues to place greater emphasis on security cooperation, to include building partner capacity.” The term “building partner capacity” (BPC) widens the focus of security cooperation as a whole-of-government effort, and makes clear congressional interest in treating security cooperation as a defense institution building endeavor. In response to the law, this book examines and recommends specific steps the DoD can take to build partner capacity successfully in Africa and meet congressional direction.

The ultimate success of any human resource planning largely depends on apt Job analysis and thus it became the cornerstone of HRM. Indian economy is a mixed economy where both private sector and public sector (also known as government sector) have been given equal importance. But in reality, the private sector is more productive than general government sector. The human resources of the general government sector may be characterized as lazy, inefficient, ineffective, and low productive. But when the same human resources come in the private sector, they become energetic, efficient, effective, and highly productive. As such, the management policy of Indian Government sector comes under a big question mark. Marco Rettig The role of the banking sector in economic process Lebanon before and after civil war

Examination Thesis from the year 2004 in the subject Business economics - Economic and Social History, grade: 70% / Distinction, School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS)/ Economics Department), course: Abschlussarbeit zur Erlangung eines MSc Development Economics, 60 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: This dissertation assesses the role of the banking sector in the Lebanese economy throughout the country's history with respect to its linkages with the real sector. I thereby focus on the credit market. It is shown that various external and internal factors have led to a credit market development on the supply-side that is not conducive to real sector growth. In particular, the period before the Lebanese civil war is characterised by funds flowing in from other Arab countries, which were not channelled into domestic long term investment but accrued to the trade and services sector or went abroad. Throughout the war and afterwards the share of the private sector in total credit declined substantially as the government crowded out private demand. It is concluded that only a shift of policy with a clear focus on the real sector's needs can bring about the required economic development.

Margaret M. Rudolf Trust and Organizational Capacity for Change

Trust is recognized as being an important factor that enables the quality of working life in organizations. Trust is identified as an important leadership and management competency helping organizations navigate the change management process. The effectiveness of an organization’s capacity for change is closely associated with the degree of trust within an organizational workplace. This study takes an empirical approach exploring trust-building and trust-breaking behaviours, and the capacity for change in an organizational context, that being Bell Canada. Two survey instruments, merged into one, were carried out at Bell Canada’s Secure Channel Operations and Delivery program sector to find out if there is a correlation between trust variables and the capacity for change. The survey findings demonstrate there is a definite correlation between these variables. Moreover, regression analyses demonstrate that competence trust behaviours are a strong predictor for an organization’s capacity for change.

Nisha Bhargava Power Reforms Analysis-Transcending the Boundaries of Time and Space

Electricity sector, which remained in public domain for long, is everywhere being opened up for private participation. As the deficiencies of public sector are becoming evident, its role in economic activities is being curtailed to enhance productivity and efficiency. The present study strives to analyse the reform initiatives across countries and Indian states in order to suggest a policy framework for Punjab, one of the most advanced Indian states. The analysis of electricity reform process reveals that in developed countries, reforms were initiated to increase efficiency and productivity. In under developed countries, however, they were supposed to get rid of various ills of power sector. In India, sub-optimal scheduling of reforms has failed to yield desired results. The study tends to conclude that total privatisation is not the answer to the woes of Punjab's and for that reason, for any economy's electricity sector. Therefore, private participation though needed to complement public investment, must not become the mantra for power sector.

Annette Nölle Anti-Corruption Initiatives for South Korean Water Management

Diploma Thesis from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics - Business Ethics, Corporate Ethics, grade: 1,3, Martin Luther University, language: English, abstract: Corruption, defined as the "abuse of entrusted power for private gain," has been a recurrent theme throughout South Korean (hereinafter referred to as Korean) history. Since Korea joined the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in 1996, it has continuously been ranked among the lowest 20th percentile in Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) barometer. The term of corruption primarily refers to the public sector. Therefore, Shleifer and Vishny offer a more narrow definition of corruption as being "the sale by government officials of government property for personal gain." Corruption occurs at the interface between the public sector and the private one, whenever a public official is endowed with the discretionary power over the distribution of goods and services. The consequences of corruption are multifarious, including the lowering of investment and economic growth, a loss of tax revenue, adverse budgetary consequences, for instance by reducing the level of tax collection, and a reduction of the effectiveness of aid flows in developing countries and distortion of the composition of government expenditures. One sector that is known to be very susceptible to corruption is the construction sector, covering major public investment projects. T...

Simeon Häfele Does Foreign Aid to the Energy Sector improve Electricity Supply in Developing Countries.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Economics - International Economic Relations, grade: 1,0, University of Bayreuth (RW Fakultät), course: Entwicklungsökonomik, language: English, abstract: This bachelor thesis examines whether foreign aid to the energy sector has a significant impact on the development of a country's electricity sector by analysing the impact of aid disbursements to the energy sector on three different sector-specific outcome indicators in a fixed effects model. Besides, as heterogeneity of aid recipients might influence the effect, different regressions are run for low income, lower middle income and upper middle income countries. Results indicate that foreign aid to the energy sector affects electricity output positively and significantly, while not having an impact on generation capacity. The impact on electricity consumption per capita remains unclear. Furthermore, it seems to work more effectively in richer countries. This is robust to a set of sensitivity tests. Thus, the results emphasize the importance of disaggregating aid flows and the use of sector specific outcome variables in order to measure the impact of foreign aid.

Dan Pallotta Charity Case. How the Nonprofit Community Can Stand Up For Itself and Really Change World

A blueprint for a national leadership movement to transform the way the public thinks about giving Virtually everything our society has been taught about charity is backwards. We deny the social sector the ability to grow because of our short-sighted demand that it send every short-term dollar into direct services. Yet if the sector cannot grow, it can never match the scale of our great social problems. In the face of this dilemma, the sector has remained silent, defenseless, and disorganized. In Charity Case, Pallotta proposes a visionary solution: a Charity Defense Council to re-educate the public and give charities the freedom they need to solve our most pressing social issues. Proposes concrete steps for how a national Charity Defense Council will transform the public understanding of the humanitarian sector, including: building an anti-defamation league and legal defense for the sector, creating a massive national ongoing ad campaign to upgrade public literacy about giving, and ultimately enacting a National Civil Rights Act for Charity and Social Enterprise From Dan Pallotta, renowned builder of social movements and inventor of the multi-day charity event industry (including the AIDS Rides and Breast Cancer 3-Days) that has cumulatively raised over $1.1 billion for critical social causes The hotly-anticipated follow-up to Pallotta’s groundbreaking book Uncharitable Grounded in Pallotta’s clear vision and deep social sector experience, Charity Case is a fascinating wake-up call for fixing the culture that thwarts our charities’ ability to change the world.
